What is the potential for using wikis in schools?
One example
I can envisage wikis being used by the books.fun club as part of the BRAW book award. Pupils could build a wiki of information about the authors and their works as well as sharing information about their opinions of the shortlisted titles.
Another example
A wiki could be used by the pupil librarians to build up a bank of information about their different responsibilities, for example:
how to issue and return books; when it is appropriate to use the internet and other non-book materials; how resources are prepared for addition to the LRC; how to help other pupils with enquiries.
Tools like wikis should not be thought of in isolation. Any project work can use a wiki to create the final report while a blog can be used for day to day note making. Or there can be two pages to the wiki, one to create a draft report and for everyone involved to contribute their ideas about what should go in the second page which would be the final report.
